Summer Activities You Can Do While Social Distancing

Summer Activities You Can Do While Social Distancing

As summer heats up, many Floridians instinctively start packing for the beach, waiting for the cooler night air to usher in outdoor concerts under the stars, or dreaming of sending our kids to camp. While these activities may be curtailed (or not recommended) for the time being, there are still plenty of ways to enjoy the summer with your family.

Here are some suggestions we’ve thought of. Let us know in the comments how you and your loved ones are spending the summer!

Making frozen treats

Sundaes, popsicles, and smoothies are all fun and easy treats to make. Have a family sundae bar with all the toppings arranged on the table. Or do a make-your-own popsicle event with fun fillings for kids to add.

Backyard water park

With a little creativity, you can turn your backyard into a fun water space. Sprinklers, hoses, slip-n-slides, blow-up pools, and squirt guns can all be used!

Barbecue

One of America’s favorite past times, firing up the grill!

Craft day

Do you have a craft box at home? There is no better time to break it out those paints, beads, crayons, feathers, glue, and glitter and get creative!

Camp in the backyard

Stargazing, ghost stories, and s’mores!

Grow a garden

Or fill in your landscape! Ask a local farmer (they’re always at the Farmer’s Markets in town) about what can be planted now and which veggies will grow in your backyard depending on sun requirements.

Sidewalk chalk art

While you’re planting a garden, kids can spruce up the driveway with a little chalk art.

Learn something new

Have a hobby you’ve always wanted to explore? Nows your chance! You could attend a local workshop that is using proper social distancing like the beading workshops hosted by Bead All About (follow the Bead All About It Facebook page for workshop updates). Or you could even start a family band! Our locally-owned Hoggtowne Music is the perfect place to ask about taking up a new instrument.

Join a virtual book club

Because it’s virtual, you aren’t limited to a book club in your town – you can join one that’s happening anywhere!

Have an at-home spa day

Or if you really want to be pampered, schedule a spa party for the whole family at Trinity’s Day Spa or something just for you at Floating Lotus Therapeutic Spa & Health Center. Both are dedicated to keeping you safe and relaxed! Even dad will enjoy a pedicure!

Spend time outdoors

Canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding, biking, and hiking. Make sure when you’re visiting places for outdoor activities you chose a day when things aren’t likely to have too many other guests.

Visit your local shops (with masks on)

You can still support local businesses while practicing social distancing! In Thornebrook, some of our shops remain closed while others have opened with additional safety and sanitation procedures in place. You can also shop online in most cases! Visit our Shoppe Updates page for details about our individual shops.
